With this complete retrospective, Cines del Sur presents the possibility of viewing works that have rarely been seen before, in addition to rediscovering famous films.
The presentation of this retrospective will include the presence of the Spanish actress, director and producer Margarita Alexandre, an exceptional witness to the film activity in Cuba during the 1960s. As a sample of her work as a producer for the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), Crónica Cubana, by the Uruguyan Ugo Ulive, an interrogation of the social changes brought about by the revolution on a group of characters, will be shown. Sitting at the roundtable as well will be Juan Antonio García Borrero, one of the most distinguished critics of film in Cuba and author of the book, Outsiders in Paradise. Foreign Filmmakers in Cuban Cinema of the 1960s, edited by the Ministry of Culture and the Legado Andalusí, with the collaboration of the University of Granada. The cycle presents all types of perspectives: from filmmakers committed to the revolution, like Agnes Varda, to the most commercial selections, such as Alfred Hitchcock’s film, and completely experimental pieces, such as Andy Warhol’s .
